Atelier Liesjes Profile picture Bingen am Rhein is a large town in the Mainz-Bingen district of Rhineland-Palatinate. The original name of the settlement was Bingium, a Celtic word for "hole in the rock", the name for the shallow area behind the mouse tower, known as Binger Hole. Bingen was the starting point for the Ausoniusstrasse, a Roman military road that connected the city with Trier. Bingen is also known for the story of the Binger Mouse Tower, in which the Archbishop of Mainz Hatto was supposedly eaten by mice. In 2008 Bingen hosted the third Rhineland-Palatinate State Horticultural Exhibition after Kaiserslautern and Trier.

Jan van Call (Nijmegen, 1656 - The Hague, 1703 or 1706) was a Dutch painter and engraver.

Van Call was a self-taught artist who became known for the many landscapes, townscapes and buildings he drew and engraved. He made a long journey via Germany and Switzerland, along the Rhine, to Rome, producing many works along the way.
