José Victoriano González-Pérez (Madrid, March 23, 1887 - Boulogne-Billancourt, May 11, 1927), better known as Juan Gris, was a Spanish painter. Gris lived most of his life in France. Originally, Gris was under the influence of the German Jugendstil. In 1911 his first oil paintings were created, for which he used monochrome shades of grey and earthy colours. In 1913 he started to paint more colourful, but always in cubist style. In 1913 Gris also started to use the collage technique.
