Iran, Esfahan - Khaju bridge
Esfahan has several historic stone bridges over the Zayandeh River. One of the most beautiful is undoubtedly the Khaju bridge. The bridge from 1660 is a beautiful example of Persian architecture. It has two floors, 24 arches and is 133 metres long and 12 metres wide. Two octagonal pavilions have been built in the middle. The bridge is only accessible to pedestrians, who make use of it to go from one side of the city to the other.
When the water flows and night falls, the monumental bridges over the Zayandeh bridges are perhaps the best place in the city. Entire families are under the arches of the Khajou bridge. They sing, make music, smoke the bong and secretly chant and decorate it. A lot of what's not supposed to happen here.
