The kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) is a bird in the kingfisher+ (Alcedinidae) family. It is a striking appearance due to its contrasting blue upperparts and orange parts, but also a very shy species that is rarely seen. This species is the only kingfisher species found as far north as Europe, including the Netherlands and Belgium. Most kingfishers+ live in the tropics. The kingfisher+ is a typical fish-eater and is therefore strongly water-bound. Because of its preference for steep walls to breed in, they are often found near running water, as steep banks naturally form there due to erosion. Stagnant fish-rich waters with vegetation also provide excellent habitat. In most of its range, the species is common, but in some areas the kingfisher is threatened with extinction. Hello, nice that you take a look in my shop. So my name is Gert Hilbink, living in Coevorden. I have been doing photography since I was 13, inspired by a biology teacher at the then U.L.O. school in Coevorden. Generally I mainly photograph nature but actually find everything that can fly very interesting.
