Reflecting landscape of the Labbegat wetland nature reserve near the village of Capelle and the Hof van Capelle (far left), seen from the winter dyke. This area is part of the series of nature reserves in the West Langstraat that have acquired Natura 2000 status. Nature is being restored and developed in these areas. The photo was taken during the so-called blue hour, i.e. after sunset and before darkness falls. The stroke landscape characteristic of this region can be recognised. In the background, a row of poplars marks the border of the nature reserve. Behind it is the A59 motorway....
As an avid hiker and lover of nature, I can often be found - with camera - in the beautiful river area of Lek, Merwede, Maas and the Hollandsch Diep in all seasons. Nature along these rivers is increasingly getting space to develop spontaneously and ruggedly in the redesigned floodplains. This is where I take most of my nature photos. I also often photograph the bridges with their imposing steel constructions that are so characteristic of the river landscape." On his photo trips, Eugène Winthagen is often looking for images that express his amazement and appreciation for nature or that are particularly suitable for creative merging into new, sometimes illusionistic photos. He photographs shapes, colours, black and white nuances and structures that stimulate the imagination or evoke a particular feeling.
