This picture was taken in Kootwijk.
Heathlands in the Netherlands: these are the most beautiful.
Usually the heather blooms from mid-August.
This year, the flowering heather is early: the beautiful purple colours are already slowly appearing. With that, the time has come to enjoy nature's splendour.
Heather grows best in nutrient-poor places.
This is especially common on sandy or peaty soil.
In the background is Radio Kootwijk.
