This photo was taken from the Trekvogelpad near the Lepelaarplassen in Almere. It is a place which can best be described as the Garden of Eden for nature lovers. A vast expanse of water bordered by willows and reeds, on which hundreds of water birds lie bobbing up and down, feeling unloved by man.
It has rained a lot lately and you can tell by the high water level. If you walk towards the spoonbill hut, there is a narrow strip of water with small pools on the left. Here the water has also risen considerably so that whole areas of forest are under water. With the spring sun on top it is a beautiful sight. In some places the water reaches the path, so watch out.
In this piece of forest are many old trees full of lichens. It is sometimes a puzzle but if you take the time to look a little longer you will see the different species.
