The Green Harbour Light from Stavoren on a heavily cloudy and very windy day.
Stavoren is a town in the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, in the Dutch province of Friesland.
It is located southwest of Hindeloopen and Molkwerum and northwest of Warns. The city centre lies between the Warnservaart (which is part of the Johan Friso Canal) and the IJsselmeer. It has several ports. Stavoren was the first Frisian community to obtain city rights.
It is a former Hanseatic city and one of the Frisian eleven cities. In 2019 the city had 945 inhabitants. The official name of the city of Staveren was until 1979. That year, the municipality at that time decided that the name Stavoren was more famous but above all more recognizable, and so the name of the town was changed.
