The lion (Panthera leo) is a predator from the feline family (Felidae). Of all felines only the tiger is bigger. The size and mane of the male give the animal an imposing appearance, which is why the lion is known as the king of animals in many parts of the world. In Europe, the lion only took over this role from the brown bear during the Middle Ages. The lion has often been the subject of folklore and symbolism. The lion is often depicted in the coats of arms of various countries, regions and cities, including the Netherlands, Belgium and Sri Lanka.
The lion can still be found in certain parts of Africa and in a small part of India, but in the past it was also common in the Middle East and in South-Eastern Europe. Lions live in groups (the only feline that lives primarily in social groups) and lionesses usually hunt together, making them a larger hunting partner than male lions.

Hello, nice that you take a look in my shop. So my name is Gert Hilbink, living in Coevorden. I have been doing photography since I was 13, inspired by a biology teacher at the then U.L.O. school in Coevorden. Generally I mainly photograph nature but actually find everything that can fly very interesting. If you have any questions about my work, it is possible to contact me via the contact page of my website GertPhotography.nl
