Patty Elferink Profile picture At the centre of the star forest near Amerongen is the lone oak, a clearly solitary tree. Built around 1790, this star forest was originally shaped like a wagon wheel with eight spokes. This oak was probably planted in 1792 during the construction of the star forest. The construction, at the highest point of Amerongse berg, was commissioned by the owners of Amerongen castle, who owned a large property here. Over the years, the character of the terrain had deteriorated significantly, for example by the disappearance of a number of spokes. Restoration was started in 1990, in 2004 the Douglas fir forest within the circle was cut down and the eight spokes were replanted with beeches. Since then, the lone oak tree has again stood out prominently in the centre of the circular structure that was also called 'The Manege'.

Ever since I was a kid, I've enjoyed photographing. In order to specialize further, I have enjoyed training to become a professional photographer. My photos are colourful and diverse. Lately my focus has been on abstract forms in nature and architecture. The beauty and the interplay of lines of the built and unbuilt environment appeals most to me as a photographer.
