Jaap van den Berg Profile picture Maassluis on the Friday evening of August 2, 2019 after the Varend Corso.

Maassluis originated around 1340, as a settlement near a lock in a sea wall built between the North Sea and Rotterdam to prevent flooding.

Economically, fishing was initially important. In the nineteenth century, the town became world-famous for the tugboat company L. Smit & Co. and the ship salvage company W.A. van den Tak, which after a merger were known as Smit-Tak. Maassluis is home to the National Tugboat Museum and the steam tug Furie (known from the TV series Hollands Glorie) is in the harbor.

The Varend Corso Westland is an annual event in the Dutch region of the Westland, where boats decorated with flowers, plants, fruits and vegetables sail over the water through the centers of Westland, Midden-Delfland, Delft, Rijswijk, The Hague, Vlaardingen and Maassluis. A beautiful event that you should definitely have seen once.

This artwork is offered by Jaap van den Berg

I am Jaap van den Berg and photography has become a great passion of mine since 2010. Since then I travel all over the world to take pictures of military aircrafts. But besides aircraft I also love to photograph other subjects like landscapes, architecture, flowers, animals, ships and cranes. Evening photography and macro photography are also something I enjoy doing.
