Elianne van Turennout Profile picture In the vastness of this truly magical world, our role as humans sometimes seems no more than a humble particle of the greater whole. Despite our tendency to see ourselves as rulers of nature, an image manipulation of a Scottish Highlander reminds us of the overwhelming power and majesty of nature itself.

The image depicts the Scottish Highlander as a symbol of magical primal power, a creature deeply rooted in the mysticism of the natural world. As we wallow in our supposed greatness, this image reminds us that we are just a small cog in the complex mechanism of life on earth.

The imposing stature of the Highlander evokes a sense of humility, making us realise how puny we actually are compared to the grandeur of the natural world around us. The majestic appearance of this animal invites contemplation on our place in the universe and our responsibility towards the world we live in.

The image of the Scottish Highlander as a magical primal force invites us to experience the beauty and power of nature, and to show respect and admiration for all living things that make up this beautiful planet we call home. It reminds us that we are mere passers-by on this earth and that it is our duty to cherish and protect it for future generations.

It all started with a4 paper and HB pencils. As a child I was often impressed by how beautiful the world around me was. The urge to capture this beautiful world, and to show the people around me what I saw, was actually there from the beginning. If I remember correctly, I was about eleven years old when I first met the camera. Of course it was a simple compact camera with a ridiculous quality, but I enjoyed it.

I sometimes said I wanted to be a photographer, but of course you have one of the two parents who says, "Dream on." Strangely enough, I followed the sarcastic remark as advice, and still went to study photography.
