Aci Trezza, also known as Acitrezza, is a fraction of the municipality of Aci Castello in the metropolitan city of Catania in the Italian region of Sicily. The municipality is located on the east coast of Sicily on the Ionian Sea. The Cyclops Islands lie off the coast.
Aci Trezza was originally a small fishing village that developed into an excursion destination for the inhabitants of Catania due to its beautiful beach.
In 1948, the film La terra trema was shot in Aci Trezza under the direction of Luchino Visconti with local actors. The film is based on Giovanni Verga's novel The Malavoglia, which depicts the hard life of the fishermen. Some of Verga's stories from Cavalleria rusticana (Sicilian peasant tales) are also based on Aci Trezza. They served as the basis for the eponymous opera Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni.
