Marcel (Marco) van Basten (Utrecht, October 31, 1964) is a former Dutch professional football player and soccer coach.
A three-time European Footballer of the Year and two-time World Footballer of the Year, Van Basten is recognized worldwide as one of the best footballers of all time. The former striker was praised for his ball retention, technique, tactical class and way of finishing. He created a furor during his active career as a player mainly with Ajax and AC Milan. In Amsterdam service, the striker won three national titles and the European Cup Winners Cup, among others. In 1987, he bid farewell to the Dutch public and continued his career in Italy at AC Milan. There he was instrumental in winning several major prizes, including three times the European Cup I / UEFA Champions League, two World Cups and three times the European Super Cup.[3]
In 1988, Van Basten managed to become European champion with the Dutch team in West Germany. The goal Van Basten scored in the final against the Soviet Union is still regarded by soccer fans as one of the most memorable goals ever.
