According to Greek mythology, the Minotaur was a legendary monster, half man and half bull. The son of Pasiphae and the bull that Poseidon had given to Minos. After his birth, Minos locked the Minotaur in his labyrinth, where he was later killed by Theseus. Androgeus (one of King Minos' sons) had been killed in Athens. As revenge, King Minos decided that every year the city of Athens should send seven boys and seven girls to Crete, where they would be locked in the labyrinth near the Minotaur and thus serve as food for the Minotaur.
Captain chaos is the alter ego of me, he who creates these works. Once started at art school with drawing pencil, nowadays mostly digitally decorated. I work with photography, illustrator and photoshop. Lately also with AI, artificial intelligence. This is really great as a new tool in my "drawing shed. Still far from perfect, as a stand-alone technique, this tool gives an extra dimension to my thoughts. It stimulates me to stretch the boundaries of my creative mind. And it works, leading to new, surprising insights. Unpolished, unexpected and what I often look for in my own creations, a dark and sharp edge. Delicious.
It makes a layer of mystery, as it were, fall over the representation of the image. The subject comes to life much more at once. I naturally begin to think about how and why. "What am I looking at now, what am I seeing, and is it really true? All questions whose answers are actually irrelevant. It is more important that the image invites you to keep looking so that you keep asking and fantasizing. Every time again.
