In Maximapark near Utrecht, you will find the Piet Oudolf-designed Vlinderhof, a beautifully landscaped garden with some'15,000 plants that attract butterflies. The garden is managed by volunteers.
I was there on a sunny morning in early August 2024 together with a fellow photographer to take photos's in this so special garden. There were not many butterflies, bees all the more and flowers, lots of flowers. From the particularly photogenic White Knotweed (Persicaria amplexicaulis Alba) in this photo, to Echinacea, Helenium, Asters....... For me as a garden and flower lover, this is paradise.
The great thing about photographing in pairs is that you can inspire each other, share things and point things out to each other.
After this morning, I came home full of energy. That's what nature and photography does to me. Pure happiness.
In this photo, I focused on the front flower and the flowers in the background form a beautiful canvas that looks almost abstract.
Piet Oudolf has many extraordinary designs to his name, including Highline Park In New York. I also visited this park. I love the prairie plants and grasses he uses to create as natural a landscape garden as possible.
Maximapark can be found on the west side of Utrecht near Leidsche Rijn and is accessible all year round.
As the daughter of a photographer, photography has been a big part of my life. I love nature and especially flowers, so you see this most in my work. I have worked as an independent make-up artist for over 15 years, developing my eye for detail. Composition is very important to me in my photos. It has to be right. Atmosphere, composition, colour and sharpness.
Actually, I always see life through my lens. Every day there is so much beauty to see and therefore also to capture.
