Ever since my primary school days, Jordan had been on my list to visit. Its rich culture, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the remains of Roman times in Jerash but certainly not least for Petra, one of the 7 New Wonders of the World with its beautifully carved treasure chamber.
But... an hour and a half's walk, up 800 steps considerably into the air, will get you to the monastery, at least as beautiful and the victory of the distant walking and climbing might make you enjoy this even more.
This photo has a little painterly effect that brings out the colours beautifully.
