Hi!

I am Monique Tekstra-van Lochem. I am a cultural anthropologist.
As long as I can remember I have loved to travel and have been interested in people all over the world. The more different they or their way of life is than mine, the more interested I am.

When I was 8 years old I was already drawing African villages and people from all over the world.
When I was 17 I was allowed to make my first long journey. I lived with a family in South Africa for six weeks.

That literally opened the world to me.

After my final exams there was no stopping me. I had to go and discover the world. From that moment on I travelled all over the world and met the most beautiful people and cultures.

I always thought that the camera would be a barrier between me and the people I met, but now I have discovered that the camera can actually be a bridge.
Portrait and documentary photography are my specialties.

And so I mainly photograph people in their own environment, because people are beautiful!
