Morning drive along the beach, Anton Mauve, 1876.
The painters of the Hague School had a preference for the poor fisherman's life, as was the case, for example, in nearby Scheveningen. Mauve, however, shows the other side of the fishing village: the sunny world of wealthy citizens. Three horsemen descend to the beach, where the bathing carts are ready for swimmers. The blond and blue colours reflect the salty atmosphere of a summer's day at the beach.
