The painting Reclining Nude by Isaac Israëls (1865-1934) was voted the most beautiful nude painting in the Netherlands in 2009. The work received the most votes during an internet nude election.
The painting shows Israel's model Sjaantje van Ingen, naked on a sofa, reading in a book. The style is impressionistic. The work is currently in private collection.
The artwork received the most votes in the election organised by Oog, the magazine of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
The public could choose from 69 paintings by Dutch painters selected by an editorial team, ranging from Rembrandt to Appel.
Over ten thousand people cast their votes, 1113 votes were cast for Reclining Nude.
The Toilet by Theo Molkenboer (1871-1920) and Het Gerucht by Johannes Moesman (1909-1988) came second and third, respectively, by a good distance.
