Antarctica is a unique and remote nature reserve where there are hardly any human influences. This is where nature is still pristine and wild. It is also called the White Continent because of its many glaciers, continuous snow cover and sea ice and icebergs.
The shapes and colours in which these icebergs take shape are often stunning and you undeniably wonder how nature can still create this so beautifully.
The blue colour is 'trapped' in the ice. At a certain angle and transparency, the ice acts like a prism, refracting the light. The individual colours each have their own wavelength, speed and energy level. Only the blue colour or photons have the right speed to be returned to our eyes. The other colours are absorbed by the ice. The blue photons are as it were trapped in the ice so even on a cloudy day or in the dark, this ice will still have the beautiful blue colour.
