It is the middle of the night and with the help of this image, we find ourselves on a Norwegian midsummer night beach. It won't get dark tonight. The sun is just out of frame very low on the horizon, creating a golden reflection on the wet beach. Our attention is drawn to the rising wisps of pink mist. They move slowly among the mountain slopes in the distance, where they disappear upwards. The pink colour also reflects on the beach. In the distance, the call of a bald eagle can be heard. What a summer and what a night!
The photo was taken in the southwestern part of Andøya. Andøya is an island belonging to the Vesterålen group. In summer, the sun does not set there; in winter, the sun does not rise there. In summer, you can enjoy the midsummer nights there. In winter, you can enjoy a different kind of light - the northern lights.
Karla Leeftink prefers to photograph in the peace and quiet of early mornings with a hint of mysterious mist. The Drentsche-Aa region and the Reest valley are ideal for this with their frequently occurring misty landscapes. She also likes the wide open Wadden Sea landscapes and rough Norwegian fjord landscapes. Standing under the stars she is in her element and impressed by creation. In a frozen puddle and on knots of trees she spontaneously sees abstract works of art before her.
At her nature presentations she enthusiastically shares her nature experiences and lets others enjoy them with the help of her photo and video material. She has set up a line of cards with about a hundred cards, in which she has incorporated her own photos. She contributes photos to magazines and is author of the book "Reeën het jaar rond ". (released in 2018)
