From the roof terrace of NeMo you have a beautiful view over the Oosterdok. That colorful sunset is a great bonus.
The Oosterdok is a water in Amsterdam. It arose in 1832 when the Oosterdoksdam separated this part of the IJ from the IJ and because of this there was no ebb and flow in the IJ, which at that time was still in open connection with the Zuiderzee.
On the east side the enclosed water plain that is now called Oosterdok came into being. On the west side the Westerdok came into being in a similar way.
Oosterdok is also the name of a street that runs around the science museum NEMO.
Next to NEMO is also the complex of the Marine Etablissement Amsterdam with the building of 's Lands Zeemagazijn, where Het Scheepvaartmuseum has been located since 1973. As part of the museum, the replica of the East Indiaman "Amsterdam" is moored in the Oosterdok. Furthermore, the "Vereniging Museumhaven Amsterdam" and ARCAM (the Architecture Centre Amsterdam) are located on the Oosterdok.
