Evening light falls over Holtveen, located in National Park Dwingelderveld, the largest wet heathland in Western Europe. It is situated in the Dutch province of Drenthe, in the triangle Dwingeloo, Ruinen and Beilen. Wet lowlands and high sand ridges alternate in the vast Dwingelderveld. Here you will find heathland, woods, juniper bushes, shifting sands and over forty fens. Some of these ponds were created during the ice age, others are the result of peat excavation.
