The herb-paris or true lover's knot from above in South Limburg. The plant grows 15-30 cm high and forms a creeping root stick, from which a straight stem comes with a top of a wreath of four, sometimes five, wide elliptic to reverse eironde, short-pointed, seated leaves.
The sole blooms from late April to June. The flower has four broad calves and four narrow, green cauliflower leaves, eight pointed stamens and a four-stamp pestle. The fruit is a thick blue black berry.
The plant occurs in the south and east of the Netherlands in deciduous forests on moisturizing to fairly wet, moderately foody soils.
