Peniche in Portugal is a historic fortified town still with many monuments from that era and traditionally still a very important fishing port. The peninsula is located at the southernmost tip of the Costa Prata. For artisanal fishing, Peniche is still one of the most important Portuguese fishing ports and thus still inextricably linked to the surrounding sea. There is also a major water sports centre on the Atlantic Ocean. Along the coastal strip, you will still find many elements of the life of yesteryear. The beautifully restored and colourful fishermen's cottages on the edge of the ocean are a fine example of Peniche's character of yesteryear. Of course, fishing has always been one of the main sources of income for this town. However, Peniche is also known for the lace that the women cloned while the men were at sea. There are still beautiful examples of this in the local museums and you can still find products made by local lace-makers in the small craft shops in the historic town centre. The sea is still one of the main attractions and Peniche's beaches are a major draw. The bays of Consolação and Baleal offer protection and are ideal for families. Praia de Medão Grande is considered one of the best beaches for surfers and bodyboarders, both nationally and internationally. It is known for its perfect waves with a tube shape; therefore, the beach is also called "Supertubos". During a national surfing competition, it was declared one of the "7 Wonders of Portugal". This beach and Praia do Lagido host the Rip Curl Pro Portugal World Surfing Championships, a competition that is part of the WSL - World Surf League Tour.
Middle-aged, married, energetic and still full of zest for life,
Mother and grandmother, still works for 3 days a week.
My interests include healthy living, healthy cooking, walking in nature, visiting beautiful cities, collecting and capturing beautiful memories. We live in the heart of South Limburg, in the middle of the beautiful idyllic hill country, on the outskirts of the village, but with all amenities within walking distance. Lifetime-proof, so we will stay for a while. By now we know the region well, have been on every beautiful path in the different seasons. We also like to explore nature outside our borders. With Belgian Ardennes and the German Eifel as hinterland, these are ideal opportunities. One of our children lives with his family near Granada, so we visit there regularly and enjoy the beautiful Spanish cities and beautiful subtropical nature there too.
I, read we, hope to be able to enjoy for a long time in health the things we find valuable, especially simple things that are there for the taking, that you can observe with your eyes open, can smell when you walk around it, can hear when you listen to it, and perhaps share a bit of that happiness with others through images.
