Picture of Peonies from Xian'e Changchun Album. Giuseppe Castiglione was an Italian Jesuit and missionary in China, where he served as an artist in the imperial court of three Qing emperors - the emperors Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong. He painted in a style that is a fusion of European and Chinese traditions.
