The Pontiac Chietftain from 1950 is considered as the first luxury car of its time and was a pioneer in the design. The car was very well crafted and sported a simple two-door design. It was powered by a chassis that was similar to the American Muscle car of the time and sported some radical changes as well. It sported a magnesium body and the engine were placed behind the seating area. This allowed Pontiac to use full-on alloy wheels for the body while still using the lighter aluminum wheel base that allowed the engine to be placed in the middle of the engine bay. For a smoother ride and more handling abilities, the Pontiac Chiatftain from 1950 used a special four-link racing suspension.

The interior was completely redesigned with controls and seats that were upholstered in leather to give it a sense of formality. It featured a new double din magazine rack and piano door that were also built into the dash. For an even greater sense of luxury, the Pontiac Chietftain from 1950 had standard audio in the automobile that included a tape deck, vinyl disc player, and CD player. For the first time ever, the Pontiac Chiatftain from 1950 featured a built-in radio that worked off of a standard-size antenna.
