Throwing away is of all times. Plastic soup is in the spotlight nowadays. Our ancestors threw their discarded utensils into the canals and cesspools of the city. In 2018, these remnants can be found as shells from the past, washed up on the beaches of the IJ and Markermeer.
It took more than 18 months to collect sufficient material for this composition. Laying it out took 2-1/2 days.
"I see my role within photography as Chroniqueur of the Anthropocene.
After years of owning a gallery in non-Western art I decided to follow my heart in 2013 and enrolled at the Fotovakschool for the hbo course Photographic Design. For this I graduated cum laude in 2015 with my final project Plastic Soup Starts Here. My longstanding hobby has now become a passion and way of looking at the world around me.
At this point in my development as a photographer, I am interested in depicting human stories without the human being being physically present in them. Man is omnipresent in our world. He leaves his mark everywhere, has great influence on the landscape and the environment he lives in and makes a great statement through the matter he produces.
All human emotions and feelings are contained in this material and on the basis of this it is possible to depict beautiful stories that go beyond an eye-to-eye portrait. My temporary focus is on documentary still life and conceptual product photography. I do not reject man in my photography but shift the emphasis to his actions and environmental influences to show his story.
My work has been published in publications such as Het Parool, NRC, La Repubblica, New Photo 2016 and PF and has been acquired by the following institutions: Vereniging Natuurmonumenten, Stadsarchief Amsterdam, Kunstcommissie Reade and CBK Zuidoost.
