The Porsche 718 is an iconic sports car model, designed for circuit, road and hill climb racing, which enjoyed almost uninterrupted success in motorsport between 1957 and 1963. The 718 was known for its lightweight construction and agile handling, which made it a favourite on racetracks and a worthy successor to the Porsche 550 to boot.
During this time, the Porsche 718 took part in numerous racing events, including the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1958 with 3rd and 4th place and Formula 1. Particularly noteworthy was the 718 RSK, which was used in various racing classes and was characterised by its outstanding performance.
In total, the Porsche 718 won over 100 races and over 1,000 podium finishes between 1957 and 1963. The Targa Florio in 1959, 1960 and 1963, the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1960, and the European Hillclimb Championship from 1958 to 1961 without interruption. These successes contributed significantly to Porsche's reputation as a manufacturer of high-performance sports cars and cemented the brand's position in motorsport.
The combination of innovative technology, lightweight design and a strong racing team made the Porsche 718 one of the most successful racing cars of its time.
The Porsche 718 RS 61 with the starting number #48 was driven twice by the US racing driver Chuck Cassel / David Lane at the Sebring 12-Hour Florida International Grand Prix on 25 March 1961 and at the Road America 500 on 10 September 1961.
From 1957 to 1966, starting number #48 was driven in over 10 different races, mostly by different racing drivers.

I have been practicing vintage car photography for more than 35 years and here I mainly photograph normal everyday vehicles which were still on the road en masse over 30 years ago. But also cars with extraordinary, beautiful design. From time to time I take pictures of cars, motorcycles and trucks of recent times, when they have particularly beautiful shapes, curves and somehow tempt to dream and drive like a BMW Z8. I find these automotive beauties not only in museums, but also in specialized workshops for vintage cars, with collectors who have invited me to photograph their classics or often in dark, dusty sheds and halls or simply parked at the roadside.
