This piece, created with a watercolor effect, shows the Port Authority Building at Nordre Toldbod, Copenhagen, Denmark. The photograph on which the image is based was taken from a boat on the inner harbor.
The Port Authority Building is a very imposing building, originally built in 1868 and said to have been inspired by Italian Renaissance architecture. The original design for the building was by a gentleman called Vilhelm Dahlerup but it has since been extended through the addition of extra floor and a rear wing. It is now the head office of By & Havn, a corporation responsible for the development of the Orestad and the port of Copenhagen.
The two small pavilions on the quay in front of the Port Authority Building were built in 1905. They are known as the Royal Pavilions as they are used when the Royal Family crosses the harbor to board HDMY Dannebrog, the Royal Yacht, which is docked at Holmen.
