This is a photo art portrait of a roe deer, a doe that has raised her family near us this year, here in Central Italy. We first saw her in late spring, and then we saw that she had two tiny fawns that we could see in the distance, struggling to walk for the first time. They were so beautiful!
We used to sit and worry when the doe went off to feed and left the little ones alone, often curled up at the base of an olive tree. We spent a lot of time watching them in binoculars hoping they would keep safe!
I have to say we have had a great deal of pleasure in watching the little ones grow into independent young deer and the doe has been a brilliant mother. We have loved standing watch them stripping the figs off our fig tree. And the mother deer has such a sweet face don't you think?
