I shot this beautiful portrait in June 2021 of a Hemshin woman in the Black Sea area of northern Turkey. The Hemshin are descendants of Armenian ancestors and are known for keeping bees, true beekeepers. The woman is 75 years old and lives on her own in the woods quite a bit up in the mountains.
Hi! I'm a documentary photographer from The Hague, the Netherlands. I am fascinated by everything that threatens to disappear - from coffee tents in The Hague to nomads and other tribes all over the world. I also photograph everything that strikes me and often escapes the eye of others; the strange in the normal, the perfect imperfections, the unknown in the known.
In 2019 I published a book about a cultural phenomenon in The Hague: Bakkie Pleuâh - looking inside the coffee shop in The Hague. Now for sale.
