Portrait of an African woman wearing sunglasses in watercolor.

This portrait was painted with East Indian ink on watercolor paper and then transformed into a digital artwork using Photoshop. It has been given the look and feel of a fashion illustration. Beautiful watercolor washes play the main role.

I have been working with Indian ink on watercolor paper for years. I find it a wonderful material and a wonderful medium for art. The power of the ink and the softness of the wash and of the paper. I love that combination. It also brought me fame through the television program VTWonen Weer verliefd op je huis and various magazines such as VTWonen and KekMama.

In Photoshop, the technique of East Indian ink on watercolor paper was given an extra dimension with soft tones of brown, taupe, and blue, in addition to the black and white of the original. In the background, the beautiful texture of the paper comes through, keeping the whole very authentic. Old media and new media go hand in hand here.

I am incredibly happy with how this portrait turned out digitally. For years I searched for how best to digitize my work. Not only have I now digitized the work (again), but it has become much more exciting and intense than the original was. So I am completely happy! :)
