Prince Maurice and Frederick Henry at the Valkenburg horse market, Adriaen Pietersz. van de Venne, 1618 oil on panel, h 54.2cm × w 133.5cm Van de Venne shows with the arrival of Prince Maurice and his younger brother Frederick Henry - in a carriage drawn by six camels - the contrast between the elegant behaviour of the courtiers of The Hague and the boorish manners of the common people. He shows the fairground atmosphere, a song singer and a vegetable woman whose purse is being robbed.
