Rayen castle (Persian: ارگ راين, Arg-e Rayen) is a castle, built of adobe (kind of earth) in the province of Kerman, (Iran). The medieval mud city of Rayen is similar to Arg-e Bam, which was destroyed by an earthquake in December 2003. Rayen shows all the architectural elements of an abandoned citadel. It is very well preserved, despite the many natural disasters that destroyed similar structures in the area. It is one of the most interesting locations in Iran. Rayen Castle was inhabited until 150 years ago. Its foundations date back to the pre-Islamic Sassanid era.
