Red lanterns on facades of old wooden houses in authentic mountain village Ping An, among the rice terraces of Dazhai, Longji, Longsheng, China. Superstitious Chinese believe that this lantern (amulet) brings good luck, prosperity, health and long life. A good luck charm that protects against evil spirits and other calamities.

My passions are travelling and photographing and my camera has been with me everywhere in the world since I was 15 years old. For me it is a great challenge to capture interesting subjects and atmospheric images with my camera, both in the Netherlands and in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central America and Australia. I love desert deserts, the big emptiness and the big nothing, which you find in the Sahara, the Australian Outback and the Namib Naukluft desert in Namibia. I like to photograph surrealistic landscapes, non-western cultures and authentic retro atmospheres in e.g. China and Laos. Nature, wildlife and people in various (non-western) cultures. It is also a challenge for me to capture the authentic vintage / retro atmosphere in e.g. ancient China and Laos, so you get the feeling that you are going back in time. I also work for photostock agencies like National Image Bank, Dreamstime and Shutterstock https://www.shutterstock.com/nl/g/ingehogenbijl.
