Early morning on the river Nieuwe Maas in Rotterdam. The daylight is slowly getting stronger but the shutter speed is so long that the water and the buoys on the river get blurred.
The Nieuwe Maas, the river that the city owes its status as a world port to, has little to do with the Maas, or Meuse, which enters the Netherlands from Belgium, but is actually a continuation of the Rhine under a different name.
We see here on the right a number of residential and office towers on Boompjes Quay, with behind it the town center. On the left we see the Noordereiland, or North Island, which is located in the middle of the river. Behind it the building De Rotterdam and Erasmus Bridge are visible. In the background that other icon of the city, the Euromast observation tower, can still be seen.
