The beach is home to many animals, including the sanderling. The sanderling is best known from the beach, where they forage in groups and quickly run away from the rolling waves. It is unique among the sandpipers in that it lacks the hind toe. In winter, it is predominantly white. In spring they turn a deep reddish brown and migrate to Arctic breeding grounds in Canada, Greenland, Svalbard and Siberia.
I took this photo on New Year's Day 2020 on the beach near Wassenaar. The Wassenaarse Slag is one of the beach entrances in the Hollandse Duin National Park. This National Park stretches from Monster in the south to Noordwijk in the north.
