Segovia is a Spanish city in the southern part of the autonomous region of Castile and Leon and capital of the Segovia province. The old city is situated on a rock where the rivers Eresma and Clamores meet at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama. The city is 87 km from Madrid and 111 km from Valladolid.
The higher part of the city is completely walled. In the city are many Roman and medieval monuments. The Roman aqueduct of Trajan, from the 1st century, runs about 28 m high through part of the center. The construction consists of 160 arches, partly in two floors, built of 24,000 granite blocks. The length of the aqueduct is 728 m, and was part of the 16 km long water conduit between Ríofrío and Segovia.
