Shanghai's now iconic skyline: Pudong.
It is hard to imagine, but this skyline did not exist a few decades ago. In the 1990s, Pudong was still largely undeveloped. It is now dotted with huge skyscrapers and is home to Shanghai's financial district. Famous structures you see here include the Oriental Pearl Tower and one of the tallest buildings in the world: the Shanghai Tower (632 metres high!).
Every evening, a light show is performed on all the buildings, here beautifully combined with the rising moon in the background.
In the foreground, the artificial lights reflect in the bending Huangpu River. The river is busy with tourist tour boats, as well as many cargo ships. This photo was taken from "the Bund", which formed Shanghai's skyline before the rise of Pudong.
