The small fishing town of Hamnøy, on one of Norway's Lofoten islands, consists of a series of typical red, wooden cabins. These 'rorbruer' were used in the past by local fishermen who roamed the seas of Norway and the rest of Scandinavia from here, looking for fish. Where on the open sea the weather could be devastating, in the fjord where the village was situated, it was usually a bit calmer, giving the fishermen a safe home.
Nowadays fishing has declined dramatically in Northern Norway and most of these remarkable red cabins are now in use as holiday lets. The tourist that rent them have stunning view looking out the windows. The mountains where, at the end of the arctic winter, a small layer of snow is visible look like a monochrome image. Color is completely abundant.
This is what this place makes a paradise for the landscape photographer, as a natural contrast between the monochromatic of the mountain range and the vibrant color of the fishing cabins is hard to resist.
By using a long exposure time the wobbly water surface is flattened, giving a more calm, serene and peaceful look. A classic example of the Norwegian Lofoten.
I am an enthusiastic photographer with a distinct preference for serene landscapes and every now and then a modern architeture image. I've been making pictures since my teens but have picked up photography more seriously an couple of years ago. I hope you like what you see.
