This method of fishing with draft horses used to be common along the entire Flemish North Sea coast, but is currently only practised in Koksijde and Oostduinkerke. Oostduinkerke beach is very suitable for it; there are no breakwaters or other obstacles. The tradition of horse fishing goes back five hundred years. In 2009, horse shrimp fishing was included in representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind .
In this picture, the freshly caught shrimps are "sieved" , some the beautiful shrimps are selected , too claw shrimp , crabs and little fish are eagerly consumed by the seagulls present .
So many beautiful things around us, sometimes spectacular, sometimes just mundane, I like to share them with you.
