Elianne van Turennout Profile picture The picture depicts an enchanting and surreal scene in which the night sky seems to have mysteriously fallen down. The centrepiece of the scene is the moon, which no longer hangs high in the sky, but sits relaxed on a wooden bench. The moon has a soft, friendly smile and a relaxed posture, as if taking a break from its task of illuminating the night. Its silver light radiates calmness and gently illuminates its surroundings.

Surrounding the bench is a lawn that is now dotted with stars, which normally twinkle high in the sky. The stars are scattered like glittering gems on the dark green grass, and their twinkling light creates a magical, ethereal glow. This makes the lawn look like a fairytale scene, where the stars not only give light, but also evoke a sense of wonder and mysticism.

In the distance, silhouettes of trees are visible, outlined against the empty and silent sky above. This sky, normally dotted with stars and planets, is now dark and empty, further emphasising the surreal nature of the picture. The contrast between the dark sky and the star-studded lawn reinforces the impression that the cosmos itself has momentarily calmed down.

The whole scene exudes a magical and dreamlike atmosphere, as if you catch a glimpse of a fairytale world where the rules of nature do not apply for a moment. The scene evokes feelings of wonder, calm and a childlike fascination, as if the boundaries between fantasy and reality have been blurred.

It all started with a4 paper and HB pencils. As a child I was often impressed by how beautiful the world around me was. The urge to capture this beautiful world, and to show the people around me what I saw, was actually there from the beginning. If I remember correctly, I was about eleven years old when I first met the camera. Of course it was a simple compact camera with a ridiculous quality, but I enjoyed it.

I sometimes said I wanted to be a photographer, but of course you have one of the two parents who says, "Dream on." Strangely enough, I followed the sarcastic remark as advice, and still went to study photography.
