The Slagbaai is the namesake of Bonaire's national park: Wahington Slagbaai National Park. The name is derived from "Slachtbaai". In the past goats were slaughtered here. The meat was salted with the salt from the salina behind and then transported by ship to Curaçao. Now it's a beautiful place to snorkel in the bay and enjoy the flamingos and pelicans that come to eat in the salina.
