The Spanish daisy (Osteospermum ecklonis, basionym: Dimorphotheca ecklonis) is a plant originating from South Africa, which is sold in the Netherlands as annual garden plant. The genus Osteospermum contains more species and belongs to the sunflower family. The flowers are variable in color, ranging from (cream) white, yellow, pink, orange to purple. The shape of the flowers also varies. With some varieties the petals seem to stand on their own stalks. The Spanish daisy is actually a perennial. The base of the stem can woody. The plant can be 1 meter high at optimal conditions, but often remains much lower.
