About the artwork
The picture shows a spiral staircase that is designed like a snail shell and has been digitally alienated. The staircase winds elegantly upwards, its steps appear narrow and curved, as if they are endlessly spiralling upwards. The digital alienation intensifies the spiral effects and makes the steps appear almost flowing and distorted, as if they are dissolving into space.
The colours of the staircase are unnaturally intense, with luminous tones wrapped around the curves of the spiral. Shading and highlights further distort the structure so that the boundaries between the steps appear to blur. The digital processing makes the contours appear partially distorted or fragmented, giving the staircase a surreal, almost futuristic look.
A hypnotic whirlpool effect is created in the centre of the spiral, drawing the eye into the depths, while the edges of the staircase seem to dissolve into geometric patterns. The whole scene looks like a mixture of architecture and abstract art, merging reality and fantasy.
