Steam trains in the Harz, revive times of yesteryear For more than 120 years, the steam trains of the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen have run on a network of tracks through large parts of the German Harz Mountains.
More than a million passengers a year are transported on the precisely one-metre-wide tracks, and these are not just tourists, locals also use the various trains daily as a form of public transport.
What makes the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen so special is that even today it runs almost exclusively with steam traction using the largest and most powerful steam locomotives in the world suitable for the relatively narrow metre of track. This photo was taken in winter during a snow shower.
The snow in particular gives this photo an extra powerful dimension.
This photo has been edited in sepia, I also have it available in plain black and white in my webshop! A photo for the real steam train lovers. May I invite you to have a look at my other photos of steam trains as well? Thank you for your time and attention and enjoy your purchase.
Kind regards, Hans Brinkel, freelance photographer
