Beautiful golden evening light in the harbour of Ribe, Denmark's oldest town This beautiful place is known for its magnificent old houses, beautiful cathedral and stunning natural beauty in the area. Ribe attracts many visitors every year. Ribe is located in the Danish region of South-West Jutland on the waters of the North Sea. The oldest remains of building in Ribe can be dated back to the 6th century AD. From the 8th century, the beautiful market square was built and Ribe became an increasingly important place in the region. The first Christian church was built there in 854. However, this wooden structure was replaced by today's Ribe Cathedral in the 11th century. Ribe became Denmark's most important port. From here, people traded with the more southern European states and many Viking raids departed, and the Vikings are an important part of Ribe's history. The port was an important place for the Vikings' trade and plunder trips. This history is still kept alive. At Ribe's Viking Museum, you can learn more about the history of these fierce and feared warriors. The museum houses various archaeological finds and depicts the life of the old Vikings. The most striking building in Ribe is Ribe Cathedral. The building was put away in the 11th century on the site of a wooden chapel. The church is one of the oldest Romanesque structures in Denmark. Round Romanesque windows characterise the architectural style.
I am Gijs Rijsdijk, born and raised in Ethiopia with a Dutch background. I have been passionate about photography from a young age. My portfolio includes various types of outdoor photography. I enjoy being outside, whether I am hiking, sightseeing, or traveling to beautiful places. The story behind the photo, the circumstances, and the people I meet complete the overall experience. Sometimes a memory without a photo is enough.
