During summer, the ocean on the southern coast of the Algarve is mainly flat and many boats, canoes's and kayaks pass by daily. But as soon as the high season ends, the surf (high) season begins!
This photo was taken at Praia do Porto de Mós, just outside the centre of Lagos in the Algarve. This wide sandy beach is popular with beginner and advanced surfers, attracting youngsters from all over Europe who come to brave the waves.
As soon as the first waves of the season arrive, the water is still crystal clear and from your surfboard you can see fish swimming by while you are surfing. Moreover, the water temperature is still around 18 degrees, making a thin wetsuit enough.
This is one of my favourite shots of surfers, thanks to the beautiful colours of the water.
